welcome to the ea lifestyles substack
a fun, honest description of the Effective Altruism community in all its diversity
Welcome to the Effective Altruism Lifestyles substack!
We have two rules:
No research into impactful careers
No debating where to donate
Giving to others and making an impact can affect all areas of life, from how we eat and dress and party to our relationships with family and friends. This first week I’ll be posting every day - posts about hosting gatherings with less stress, filial piety and EA, and my own Effective Altruism origin story. If you want to receive every post, pop your email below!
Of course, there’s no need to live an EA lifestyle (if there is such a thing). Katie doesn’t - I met her when she was doing a PhD in AI policy. She came to a couple EA meetups and decided that she basically agreed with Effective Altruism but didn’t need to be involved in the community in order to do plenty of good (and she was totally right, of course).
But some of us like reading about people who are unusual in the same way we are, or people who do good differently from us, and how they live. This newsletter is for you.
I hope you enjoy this week’s experiment! Give me your thoughts in the comments.

Beautiful rules to have, I never would have thought of them myself😭
