Does more need to be said? We need a meta-norm of conservatism in using new/different social norms--more Chesterton-fencing.
My relationship with both rationalism and EA is like some quote from Eliezer, but less so - 'go only 2/3s of the way to perfect utilitarianism until you are god', or something like that - but more like, go 1/3 from (the most 'normal' social norms that you believe correlate with flourishing) to (exciting, weird ideas that push the envelope).
